Event Recap: Artsmith T-Shirt Contest

Recently I was invited to participate in the first Artsmith T-shirt contest. It was hosted at The Gun Hill Brewery in The Bronx this past Saturday. My relationship with New York is unique because I have never actually lived there. I’ve always lived in New Haven. Still, I’m a bit of a nomad in the way of working in New York most weekends and spending a lot of time there to network and spend time with my friends.

Usually I’m in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Since this art contest was Bronx centric I wanted to start spending more time there to create a design that would capture the spirit of The Bronx. The design was inspired by 80’s/90’s fashion, breaking and hip hop. I wanted an old school feel that people would associate with the birthplace of Hip Hop. The design went over very well considering I’m a “part time” New Yorker in my opinion. I won third place and walked away with some cool prizes. All in all it was a successful event and I look forward to getting to know The Bronx better.
