One of the most significant things about my trip to London was that my Mom had been there years ago when she was a teenager. I was far from home but as a result I felt closer to her because of this new, shared experience. Using WhatsApp I easily shared pictures I was taking and got advice on places to visit. One day during the trip I asked for recommendations for a place to eat. Mom suggested The Mayflower Pub. This is the oldest pub on The River Thames, London. 

I ordered a delicious Chicken Burger and took the reference photo for it to paint from later. Again I experimented with texture. The bun had to look well lit, soft and slightly wet. Procreate has a wide array of brushes so I was able to do that with a little extra work. The rest of the illustration utilizes my illustration and cartooning expertise. 

After completing the illustration I posted it to Instagram (I post my work there before blogging about it later.) and it was picked up by The Mayflower Pub’s Instagram feed.
