Featured Illustration: Jorge Colombo (Alternate Version)
October 4, 2015Welcome to my blog! Today I’m sharing an alternate version of my latest portrait painting.
Whenever I work on a portrait for a few days I create multiple copies to save different parts of the process. It’s a great way to have a backup copy in case of an emergency. I like to make another version of my painting that shows the work unblended. I loved this version so much I thought it’d be cool to experiment with the background. Jorge’s portrait conveys a certain intensity. That informed my decision to create a “snowstorm” background. I thought in terms of lighting someone correctly. I overlaid blues and light grays to achieve the lighting I wanted. Changing the opacity of these layers helped to strike the right balance. Art created in Procreate.
