Client Work: New Haven, Top 52 Places to Go 2023

I was hired by the New Haven Department of Arts, Culture & Tourism to create graphic recordings for their celebration at the Shubert Theater. The New York Times has included New Haven in their list of “Top 52 Places to Go 2023.” How these assignments work is I have a meeting or email thread to go over ideas, receive any color palettes for the event and any imagery that needed to be reflected in the graphics. There was an enormous amount of flexibility so I started by working the city of New Haven into the graphic first and foremost followed by creating a color palette that I would stick to and using the provided title which was “New Haven Top 52 Places to Visit: Convening.”

The amount of time I would be graphic recording was settled on (10am to 12pm) and then from there I was good to arrive on site and create the work. Typically I bring an HDMI Connector cord so the audience can watch the artwork come together on a monitor. This helps keep the audience engaged and excited. I, myself am a visual learner so I find that graphic recording is a great compliment to virtually any meeting. I captured (illustrated) a keynote presentation and fireside chats. Since there are many people speaking during this time it requires me to really focus in for the important details. I use any breaks between presentations to embellish any details I may have missed.

The artwork can be viewed below. Images created using Procreate on iPad Pro. If you would like to hire me to create visual notes for your next meeting please contact me to get started.
