Hot Pink

When I went to Cuba I decided to leave my iPad behind. I was fearful that it would be taken by officials when I was just trying to create a painting. The trip was primarily about photography and journalism. Art was created while I was in Havana but it was on my iPhone. It seemed like a safer and more inconspicuous way to paint.

Since I’m back in New Haven I can create paintings while referring to the photos I took. Havana was very colorful so it informed my palette. This piece is simply called “Hot Pink” and it symbolizes the colorful buildings I saw in Cuba. While I was painting I thought of all the David Hockney pieces I saw in Paris and I used his work as an inspiration. This digital painting was made using Procreate on iPad Pro.
