iPad Pro (Day 2)

Welcome back for Day 2 of my iPad Pro coverage. Since the 9.7 inch is identical to my Air I can just slip it in my bag and be on my way. At this point I’m feeling more confident with the Pencil and using the pressure sensitivity. I’m using a cartoony style for this freelance assignment and Procreate’s inking tools shine. The pressure sensitivity lets me create a stroke that is wide or tapered with ease. It reminds me of inking my comic books when I was in college.

Painting is also more natural because of the pressure output. Procreate gives you the option to have a glazed brush so you can get a translucent effect like traditional media. It’s very similar to ArtRage. (which I will cover later with the Pro.)

Hand lettering was always one of my signatures with my work but it’s been tricky to translate that to my the iPad. With the Pencil/iPad Pro combination it works flawlessly. True Tone (the light in the room or outdoors affects the iPads color in realtime.)  works very well and is easy on the eyes. I look forward to testing this for some plein air artwork. Finally I made some time for personal work too. Check back tomorrow for a special post from Jean-Paul Germain on his experience with the iPad Pro 12.9 inch model.
