Study of Mrs. James Guthrie by Frederic Leighton

Since New Haven is home to incredible art galleries like the Yale Center for British Art I have actively been going there more. I like to pick a painting in the room and create my interpretation of it. When I got there the other day I immediately knew which painting I was going to pay homage to. Mrs. James Guthrie by Frederic Leighton stands out to me because the figure almost blends seamlessly into the background of murky brown brushstrokes. She is very lifelike but also frozen in a moment of time. I could be mistaken but I think the artist used the “Dead Painting” technique to achieve this look. My study was painted using ArtRage on iPad Pro. I believe I finished the painting in three hours.
