San Rafael

One day in Cuba I was walking aimlessly until I found San Rafael. It was a bustling part of town near Parque Central. The streets were filled to the brim with tourists and locals alike. I sat across from La Floridita (which was frequented by Ernest Hemingway) to take a reference photo that would later become this painting.

I purposely left my iPad back in the United States for fear of Cuban officers confiscating my device. Thankfully I didn’t run into any problems but I figured why risk it? What I enjoyed most about this painting was being detailed yet minimal. For me it’s about capturing the essence of the scene and not every minute detail that goes along with it.
